God Hath Not Promised
God hath not promised
Skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways
All our lives thru;
God hath not promised
Sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow,
Peace without pain.
God hath not promised
We shall not know
Toil and temptation,
Trouble and woe;
He hath not told us
We shall not bear
Many a burden,
Many a care.
But God hath promised
Strength for the day,
Rest for the laborer,
Light for the way.
Grace for the trials,
Help from above,
Unfailing sympathy,
Undying love.

This Too, Is Thine
When I consider the works of Thy hands,
Thy boundless blessings to me;
So small and wholly worthless, Lord,
Is the gift I offer Thee.
But, Lord, You took the loaves and fishes
From the hands of one small lad,
To feed a tired and hungry multitude
From the only gift he had.
So take this feeble talent of mine;
Increase it, Lord, I pray,
that from its fruitage I, too, might have
A crown at Thy feet to lay.

My Life
My life is but a weaving
Between my Lord and me.
I cannot choose the colors,
As He weaveth steadly.
Ofttimes He weaveth sorrow,
And I, in foolish pride,
Forget He sees the upper
And I, the underside.
Not until the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Will God unroll the canvas
And show me the reason why
The dark threads are as needful
In the weaver's skillful hands
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.
