Alive I Suppose

I am alive I suppose. Don't feel like it since Mikes gone tho. He would be so proud at how well I am carrying on. It's only cuz I don't believe he's passed on. Hurts too much.

I joined a local Griefshare group at my cousins church. Walked into the wrong room and women were crocheting. Turns out they crochet once a month on Thurs nites. Since I have grief support then, I have to go after grief support is over. I found out they have a weekly Tues morning crocheting group there so I joined it. Maybe I can finish my projects now. I am doing some stuff for my folks for Christmas. The best looking project is a granny square afghan I am doing for my mom for Christmas. With my track record stuff goes undone for as long 37 yrs. Really. LOL. I need to hurry up and get my internet stuff done so I crochet some more. See ya good folks later.

New Jewelry I Made

I made some new jewelry and thought I'd post it on here for folks to see.

First up is a necklace I made my mom. I made me one almost like it except mine has a yellow stone on the pendant. The pendant is one I bought in Nags Head when I was recently there and was already made by a local artist in NC. As you can see I put it on the necklace I made, making it out of the pendant and some glass beads I bought at a bead shop in Nags Head.

This is a necklace I made for myself.

Next are some rings I made for myself. The set of 2 rings are for my middle finger, the single ring is for my pinky finger,and the set of 3 rings are for my index finger. I used glass and wooden beads on the necklace and glass and plastic beads on the rings...

And yes it is all designed to fit a plus sized woman. Which is me natch!

My New Websites

I have put together some new websites on the 60's groups Tommy & the Shondells, The Beatles and The Monkees. Lotta work lol. My Arlo Guthrie fan site got taken down due to Geocities getting rid of their free sites. I have redone it on Google Sites. I lost everything on the old site so had to do a new one and not as much on it. I recently did a new blog in tribute to my late hubby Mike Harrell and have also done up a Beatles fan site and a Monkees fan site. And there are new videos on my YouTube channel. I lost most of my Freddie site due to the closing of the free Geocities sites and Tripod or Angelfire taking down some of the pages there probably due to not updating it enough. I need to re-do it but really there is no need when you have Suzanne's site which is the best.

IPaul McCartney On Losing His Late Wife Linda

I feel like I can relate to Paul McCartney of the Beatles and his sadness at the passing of his late first wife Linda. It reminds me of Mike and I. I read where Paul and Linda only spent a few nites apart from each other in all their yrs of marriage . Mike and I never spent a nite apart in 23 yrs of marriage. I found on the internet some quotes of Paul that touched me and I could relate with. So I thought I'd share them here. This is only the relevant quotes and not the whole article.

"For about a year, I found myself crying—in all situations, anyone I met. Anyone who came over, the minute we talked about Linda, I'd say, 'I'm sorry about this. I've got to cry.' "

" MCCARTNEY: And so, sorry. What was your question? I was fooling around here.

Larry King : Linda. Dealing with loss.

MCCARTNEY: How do you deal with loss?

KING: I mean, this was a someone you were with for how many years? 30 years?

MCCARTNEY: I cried -- I -- 30 years. I cried a lot.

KING: You knew it was coming.

MCCARTNEY: Yeah, yeah. We knew it was coming, but you -- we tried to pretend we didn't know it was coming. The last couple of weeks, I knew it was coming. I don't know. It's just impossible to talk about it.

So sometimes I'd be sitting around people and just burst out crying. And instead of doing the manly thing and saying, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't do it." I would just go, "Oohhh," and just cried a lot.

KING: In a business where women are at your fingertips, I mean, rock stars -- and who's bigger than the Beatles? -- how did your relationship last so long?

MCCARTNEY: We loved each other. Quite simple. I think what the other thing was we'd both sown our wild oats before we got together. So I'd known a lot of girls, she'd known a lot of guys, and I think we were kind of fed up with playing the field by the time we got together. And we loved each other. So we were able to say: "You know what? Let's knock that stuff on the head and let's get it on.""

McCartney 'cries over Beatles songs'
Sir Paul McCartney has revealed that he often gets emotional when he performs songs that remind him of The Beatles and his late wife Linda.

The singer, who kicks off his European tour in Germany on December 2, admitted that he isn't worried about shedding a tear on stage when he thinks about his former bandmates.

"You are in contact with them again through the songs. In a way I'm revisiting them. It's sad and emotional," he said.

"I couldn't have done it when I was 18 years old because I would not have allowed myself to cry or go anywhere near that stuff. But now it's OK. I'm used to it."

Paul is rarely far from tears these days. crying helps, he says - at least for a while.
Linda McCartney, or Lin as Paul preferred, died in her husband’s arms following a courageous two-and-a-half year battle against breast cancer.

Linda died shortly after 5 am on 17 April
at the family ranch in Arizona.
Paul did not sleep for the next three nights; a dreadful grief swamped each day. It still does.
Paul and Linda had spent barely a night apart during this, one of pop’s most enduring partnerships. Paul saw little point. He truly adored Linda; she was his best friend, wife, lover and mother to four children, Heather, Mary, Stella and James.
If I had the option to stay away the night
or travel back, I’d travel back home.
It wasn’t out of a sense of duty,”
he says. “I just thought, what’s the point of spending the night in this hotel, in this cold bed, when she’s back there? “We just fancied each other. That was the whole root, the whole essence of our love. It wasn’t always idyllic. It was a marriage and we had rows. It was nearly always my insecurities that caused the rows between us which has left me with quite a bit of guilt. The guilt’s a real bugger.
“Whenever anyone dies you do think, oh I wish I’d been an angel for the whole of my life. But I wasn’t, so I was getting into heavy guilt when she died. “Then I thought, hang on a minute.
We were just human. That was the beautiful thing about our marriage. We weren’t king or queen someone or other. we were just a boyfriend and girlfriend having babies.”
A few months after Linda’s death,
Paul contacted friend Geoff Emerick, The Beatles’ recording engineer, who had also lost his wife to cancer. He asked Geoff to work with him on Linda’s album. They christened those shared days in the studio ‘the tears and laughter sessions.’
“We shed a lot of tears,” says
Paul. “We’d be sitting there listening to a poignant ballad and crying, then the next song would be an outrageous tongue-in-cheek track and so we’d be laughing. The best thing for getting it all out of your system is tears. Even though I’m from a generation that used to hold them in - and in Liverpool when my mum died we did a lot of holding the tears in - I am no longer remotely like that. I just let it out. People I speak to say it’s supposed to be the best thing. I can’t help myself anyway, because Lin and I were just so tight.”

I also came across some videos on the internet where he did a song in tribute to Linda and also a song in tribute to John Lennon and George Harrison . and he ended up crying singing the song. It was sooo sad.

Also Paul talks about how he didn't sleep for 3 nites. I can relate to that cuz when Mike passed, I didn't sleep for either 24 or 48 hrs. Couldn't sleep.

Anyway I could relate to alot of what he said so I was glad to find all that online. I had another dream where Mike was alive for a yr and not dead. He had his heart attack but was in the hospital for a yr cuz they couldn't find out how to contact me. All he had on was the clothes he was wearing. I had to tell him I was sorry I had to get rid of alot of our stuff and his Elvis stuff. he said , you got rid of my Elvis stuff. I told him I would have to take him and buy him more clothes to wear. Fortunately, I've had some good dreams where Mike is alive and we go places and do thing like eat out, shop and travel. But I hate waking up from them cuz it means he is dead again.

It's not easy but one day at a time I guess...

You’re probably wondering about the strange soul who writes this blog. It’s pretty eclectic as you can see. I write about everything from my faith in God to posting e-mail forwards, to posting about my interest and stars. So here is some more info about me.

I lived on a non-working farm out in the country with my parents where I had a nice typical life. I am an only child. So the Brady Bunch was the closest I ever got to being in a big family. Being in the 60’s & 70’s I grew up with the tv shows & music back then and thus began my love of old 50’s/60’s/70’s tv shows and 60’s & 70’s music. I was so fortunate to have a great family and still am.

In July 1983, a friend set me up on a blind date with my late hubby Mike. We ended up dating and then marrying on June 28, 1986. He shared my love of the oldies and oldie tv shows as well as my Christian faith. He was also a huge Elvis fan and music lover esp the oldies. We never got around to having any kids. Sadly, in 1994 Mike was diagnosed with being legally blind due to undiagnosed diabetes and the diabetes. He had to go out on disability. I took care of him and did all the driving since he could no longer drive anymore due to being legally blind. I got diagnosed with diabetes in 1998. I am on pills for it. I also have depression due to my diabetes and it has gotten worse since my dear Mike passed on. Even more sadly, on March 3, 2009 Mike passed on and went to heaven due to a heart attack. He is home in heaven now. He wasn’t just my husband but was a friend and the brother I never had. I miss him so much. He will always be my husband and baby.

I was a homemaker when Mike passed. After Mike passed, I moved in with my folks so I could rent out my house to get some income. I am no longer living in the county I lived in all my life but am now living in a subdivision for Seniors in a nearby small town about 20 mins away.

I have a wide variety of interests. I’ve been a huge fan of the 60’s group the Monkees for yrs and always liked them in the 60’s & early 70’s. Became totally die hard for the Monkees in the 70’s. I am a huge Arlo Guthrie fan and enjoy going to see him whenever he comes anywhere near VA. Also am a big fan of the 60’s group Tommy James And the Shondells and of course Tommy James. Been a fan of John Travolta and his Welcome Back Kotter Tv show, and Shaun Cassidy ever since they first came out in the 70’s. I liked Freddie Prinze and his Chico and the Man show, and also Starsky and Hutch back in the 70’s and enjoyed watching those shows on tv. But was not in love with them or a fan or anything. Some yrs back when Chico and the Man re-runs came on Tvland, I got into it and Freddie Prinze and am now a fan. When the dvd’s of Starsky and Hutch got released a few yrs back, Mike bought season one and I became hooked and a fan. I also like the Beatles too esp their 1963-Revolver up to Sgt Pepper era. I like their later yrs too but the Beatles VI, Rubber Soul, Yesterday and Today era is just pure magic. I also enjoy watching the 60’s and 70’s cop show the Mod Squad, the 60’s show Patty Duke, plus tons of old 50/60’s/70’s shows. Everything from I Love Lucy, The Partridge Family, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie to Threes Company and more.

I also enjoy 1960’s and 70’s stuff- the clothes, tv shows, music, tye dye etc. It’s groovy!

I also play music too. I play, piano, organ, guitar, mountain dulcimer, autoharp, canjo (can banjo), bowed psaltery. I play by music and by ear but mainly by ear these days. Alice’s Restaurant (with Arlo Guthrie), Head (with the Monkees), The Starsky and Hutch tv movie that started the tv show, The Beatles movies- A Hard Days Night, Help, Yellow Submarine. I like watching the old movies from the 70’s on back. They are better than the current ones.

Books: The Bible (#1), fan fictions on Chico and the Man/Freddie Prinze, Starsky and Hutch, The Monkees and Beatles and old 60’s and 70’s tv shows. Yeah I read fan fics instead of books lol. It’s cheaper and more enjoyable lol. I do like Christian romance novels like Janet Oke, Wanda Brunstetter, Grace Livingston Hill etc

As you can see I include it all on my blog. Rather than spend forever having a ton of blogs on all my interests, I have them all on my blog. My Christian faith is a big part of my life so that integrates with my other interests on my blog. I have something for everyone I guess.

I just read that Micky Dolenz of the Monkees is 71. 71? Can't be! Where did time go? I thought Ringo Starr was older lol. I had never thought of men in their 70's as cute but I guess I have to rethink that now LOL. I may now have to do a post on cute guys in their 70's. Oh yeah one of Tommy James and the Shondells is almost 70 so. I had thought cute guys were age 48-68. I better change that to 75. I came across this cute pic of the Beatles and could not help but notice how nice they were dressed and how good they looked. And Ringo esp looks so dapper and dashing for some reason. Well they all do. George Harrison doesn't look so happy tho. I think they look kind of old fashioned here. :) Ya don't see many guys wearing bowler hats these days. The "Let's Live For Today" Compilation

The song "Let's Live For Today" is best known as a hit for the 60’s group The Grass Roots. It originally started out as a song called “I Count The Tears” which was done by the 50’s group the Drifters and written by Doc Pomus. My late hubby Mike and I would hear the Drifters song on the radio and think it sounded just like the Grassroots song Let’s Live For Today, and we would discuss that. Turns out we were right. I came across some info on a blog telling about other versions of the song and the history of it.

A 60’s Italian group called the Rokes did a version of it or based on it called "Piangi Con Me" back in 1965. They were mainly popular in Italy. A group called the Skope later did a version of it in English translated from the Italian. A New York group called The Living Daylights re-wrote the lyrics, turning it into the “Let’s Live For Today” that we all know and love. The Rokes after hearing about the English versions re-recorded it in English. The US 60’s group the Grass Roots got ahold of the song and recorded the "Let's Live For Today" version of it. This was the big hit version of it back in 1967. Later on in the early 80’s the group Lords Of The New Church led by the late Stiv Bators did a new hit version of it.

How am I doing? I am alive is all. I still cannot and will not believe Mike is gone. It is too much of a shock for me to take. How do you survive losing a beloved hubby of 23 yrs? Just barely. I go and do things which helps me get my mind off of things but it is not easy. And Christmas is gonna be so sad without him. I am just alive and that is all. I will NEVER fully believe or accept he is gone. Too much of a shock to my system. And sometimes it seems as if he never existed. Maybe he was just a wonderful dream. I would love to have that dream back. I would give anything to have him back even tho I know he is happy in heaven...

Here is Rick Springfield's Christmas cd Christmas With You. He started out in the early 70's with the hit song Speak To The Sky and became a teen idol. In the early 80's he became Dr Noah Drake on the US soap opera General Hospital and soon ended up with hits like Jessies Girl. He still appears on GH every so often as Noah Drake and still sings.

This is my rip. I came across something listing radio stations playing all Christmas music during the Christmas season. It listed a local lite music station as being all Christmas. I don't listen to that station cuz they play too much new stuff and not enough oldies. I like our 2 oldies stations much better. Anyway I checked out their site out of curiosity. It had on there where you could listen to this album of his on there online. I listened to it & loved it & ended up getting it. When my late hubby Mike passed in March sadly I lost it. Fortunately, I had ripped it to my computer and I have that to upload on here. When I can afford I'd love to buy me another copy of it. This is a good one. I also have included here the songs in a smaller low quality WMA format for putting on an mp3 player without taking much space. Sadly I don't have the scans to this as I didn't think to scan the covers. Enjoy!

Finally Newer Music I can Enjoy

I lost all interest in new music in the 80's. The music changed from what I knew & loved to something totally different. They played the same songs over & over till ya got sick of them. And you had to listen to a ton of them just to get to one 60's or 70's song.

In the late 70's & early 80's some newer groups doing 60's style garage rock music came out like the Chesterfield Kings. Who are the best out there or one of the best anyway. I wasn't able to find records of this back then. Now thanks to YouTube and the internet, I have discovered more 60's style garage rock groups from the 80's and up. This has given me finally some newer music I can listen to and enjoy. So here are some 80's 60's style garage bands. Enjoy!

The Oxyclean man passed on. He wasn't much older than me. Gail Storm of My Little Margie passed too. I enjoyed re-runs of that one yrs ago. And Fred Travalena the comic passed. I remember him guesting on various tv shows. RIP. So many celebrity deaths lately...
